Talofa, welcome back to my blog. This post is the last post for SLJ because it’s ending tomorrow, I hope you enjoyed my activities and also enjoyed creating them.

This year which is 2024, I am going to high school so if they don’t have the SLJ stuff maybe I won’t be able to participate this year, I hope you enjoy this last activity, see you next year if I can do the SLJ again.

Now let’s start the last activity of this year.

Here are the steps :

Steps :

Ako | Learn

First I had to watch a video called Music buddies, in this video there were 2 parrots dancing and the person who made the video edited it, watch the video below. Next the instructions said that LeopArtnik uses anthropomorphism to create his videos. Find out the meaning of anthropomorphism here. Also watch the video below.

Hanga | Create

In a google drawing insert a photo of your pet or ‘Search the web’ for an animal image. Use the drawing tools and add other objects to anthropomorphize your pet or animal, the examples are below to help you, and use remove.bg if you need to for your pet or animal. The examples are below.

SLJ — Laser Maze Challenge Kick Start — Activity 41

Hello, welcome back to my blog.

In today’s task I made my own laser maze challenge on google drawing. If you’re wondering why I am doing it on google drawing, it is because I had to plan it well it said to think about where I/you could build a laser maze in your garden.

If you want to create this activity, follow the steps and you can also plan your own laser maze challenge and also try it in your backyard too. But if you don’t want to create this activity jump to the bottom to see my design and the example design.

Steps :

Ako | Learn

Have you ever been in a Laser Maze?

First I had to watch a video of these spy actors get around lasers. But before that, have you seen any of the Mission Impossible movies? Because if you haven’t here is a video of how these spy actors get around lasers below.

Next I had to watch a video called kids in this laser maze, in this video it shows kids doing the laser maze, there is also a laser maze in Queenstown. Watch the kids in this laser maze video below.

Lastly for the ako/learn part, I looked at fun laser mazes outside and inside, which means I looked at some examples of kids doing there maze either outside in the backyard or inside in the hallway. Have a look at the photo below too.

Videos and photo

Hanga | Create

For the create part, I looked at a example of a laser maze made on google drawing. Next I had to think about where I/you could build a laser maze in your garden. Then I had to make a copy of this google draw template to draw my/your laser maze.

Use the line tool, add images to show where you will tie the string or wool and use remove.bg to remove any background of the image.

Lastly and finally for share, I had to download my google drawing as a png and share it on my blog.

I also had to answer — How fast do you think someone could do your laser maze?

Answer :

In the google drawing I wrote 4 minutes, but if they are speedy they can do 3 minutes or maybe 2. If they are slow I would say a 4 or 5.

Here is my Laser Maze Kick start activity

SLJ — The Rainbow FIsh — Step it up — Activity 40

Hello, welcome back to my blog.

In today’s task I made my own rainbow fish. Do you know the book rainbow fish? If you do, then this task is about the rainbow fish. This task was pretty cool to make because I had to create my own rainbow fish using google drawing, I used shapes and different colour textures for the shapes.

If you want to make this activity follow the steps or else you can scroll down to the bottom to see my rainbow fish. I hope you enjoy the steps and enjoy my rainbow fish I made.

Steps :

Ako | Learn

First for the learn part, I had to watch and listen to the story of the rainbow fish. When you were young, you may have listened to the story because the rainbow fish story was made in 1992. Watch the video below. Next I watched another video showing how to make it, there are instructions already there in the google drawing.

Hanga | Create

For the create task, I had to make a copy of this template which will open a google drawing. Use the autoshapes or line tools to form the body of your/my fish. Search for coloured textures and crop the mask to cut out your fish body to create a Rainbow Fish collage. Also if you are attempting this task, your challenge is to : Add a seascape or other ocean creatures to your collage.

SLJ Anemone is not the Enemy : Step It Up — Activity 39

Hello, welcome back to my blog.

In today’s task, I did the step up activity of Anemone is not the Enemy. In this activity I had to draw or google draw a sea anemone. Read what sea anemones are below. If you want to make this fun activity follow the steps and don’t forget to read what sea anemones are. Enjoy! Also if you don’t want to do this activity scroll to the bottom to see my google drawing.

What sea anemones are

Sea anemones are invertebrates, which means they do not have a backbone. They have soft bodies that may be thick and short or long and slender. Most of the body is made up of water. Sea anemones range from less than  2.5 centimeters to about  1.5 meters across. Most sea anemones rarely move.

Steps :

Ako | Learn

For the learn part, I had to first watch a video called anemone is not the enemy but I already watched it in the kick start activity so I skipped that part, next I watched another video called — How to draw a sea anemone, this video is from the channel How to draw, I think you can heard it before. Watch the how to draw video below, next I read Sea anemone information. If you want to read the information here is the link.

Video — How to draw

 Hanaga | Create

For the create part, I had to draw an anemone, eithar using paper and pens like the video, or using an app like google draw or canva. I picked google draw, it is so much easier. If my whānau was interested in joining me they could but they didn’t want to. Once I finished my art, I had to write three facts I have learned about the anemone.

Tohatoha | Share

Lastly for share, I had to share my drawing on my blog and share the facts I have learned too.

Here are the facts I learnt about anemone

Sea anemones look like flowers but are actually animals. Their “petals” are armlike body

parts called tentacles.

There are more than 1,000 species, or kinds, of sea anemone. They live in oceans throughout the world.

Most sea anemones rarely move. Some glide very slowly or do slow somersaults. Sea anemones are usually found attached to a hard surface such as a rock, a seashell, or the back of a crab.

Sea anemones are related to jellyfish. Like a jellyfish, a sea anemone can sting a person who touches it. The sting can cause pain or sickness.

SLJ Cipher and Code — Step it up Activity 36

Hello, welcome back to another blog post.

In today’s task, I did cipher and code again but it was the step it up task which is going to be a bit hard, as you know that kick start means easy and step it up means a bit hard. In this task I learnt what Grid Code is, also I made my emoji cipher. Follow the steps I did and you can make the activity too, but before that read what Grid code means. There is also a explanation of what grid code means on the slide too.

Grid Code

The Ancient Greeks invented this secret code, so it is ancient! Instead of the letters, you write the two numbers showing where to find the letter in the grid. For example, the letter S is in the fourth row and the third column, so it is written as 43.

Steps :

Ako | Learn

The larn part was easy, it’s the same as the kick start. I just had to read the instructions on the slide. On the 2nd slide it shows the meaning of Encrypt, Decrypt, code and cipher, which was already there in the kick start activity so I didn’t have to read it.

Hanga | Create

For the create task I made a copy of the google slides and I had to decrypt the questions by using the codes and ciphers. At the end I had to create my own code using emojis and tell you my favourite summer learning journey activity so far using my emoji code.

Tohatoha | Share

Lastly for share, I had to publish my slide to the web by using the embed code to share it on my blog. Also I had to tell you why the SLJ activity was my favourite. There are so many activities I like, but it would be more fun if there were Nanogirl activities. But overall all the activities were very very very fun.

Here is my Code and Cipher

SLJ Cipher and Codes — Kick start Activity 35

Namaste, welcome back to my blog.

In today’s task, I did an activity called Cipher and Codes. Cipher  is a method of transforming a text in order to conceal its meaning. Code is a set of letters, numbers, symbols, etc., that is used to secretly send messages to someone. This activity was fun to do because I was solving puzzles like, Pig Pen and Atabash. It was so fun. I answered some of them and on the last slide is the one you have to answer. But first go through they did then go threw the ones I did. If you want to make this activity follow the steps I did.

Steps :

Ako | Learn

The learn part was easy because I just had to read the instructions on the slides I am going to create. On the second slide it shows the meanings of Encrypt, Decrypt, Code and Cipher.

Hanga | Create

For the create task I made a copy of this slide, which will bring to the puzzles I have to solve. The link I put is a fresh link so you just need to copy it and answer the questions. At the last slide you can make your own questions for other people/friends to answer.

Tohatoha | Share

Lastly for share I had to share my google slides on my blog by publishing my slide to the web and using the embed code to share it on my blog. Give me feedback on what I should do better if it’s not good, or just give me feedback.

SLJ (Summer Chat Story) Step it up Activity 34

Namaste, welcome back to my blog. I hope you are enjoying the blog posts I post, and also I hope you are having a great summer so far.

Today’s task was called Summer chat story. In this activity I created my own text story, so I first designed a phone shape for my story, then I added a title and some decorations on my phone. Next I added the text and some emojis to replace some words. There was also a template given but I wanted to create my own, I also filled the template so have a check at the bottom. This sounds interesting right? Follow the steps and you can also make this activity.

Steps :

Ako | Learn

First I watched a video called, Who invented emojis. If you know this answer without looking at the video comment down below the answer. The video is below. Next I watched another video about the power of words. The video is below too. Then I read, what is an emoji. The article explains what emojis are, when emojis are used, they also gave an example of an emoji. Lastly, I explored an example of a positive chat text story.

This is the story example

Hanga | Create

For the creative activity, I had to create my own positive text story about something I did or was going to do during the holidays. Now I have to create my own summer chat story, I had to make sure my chat story is positive and kind. Here is the template if you want to create the task.
