Community – Literacy Class

Hello everyone, welcome to my blog, Over the past week, my reading group (Narnia) has been learning about the topic of communities, and I must say it has been quite an interesting topic to learn about. We explored how communities function and how they connect people, which I enjoyed learning about. For my blog post, I’ll discuss how we can contribute to our communities or even start new ones from scratch. If you’re curious about the concept of community, the steps to create one, and other important insights, you’re definitely in the right place. I hope you find this information as inspiring as I did. Enjoy reading!

What is a Community?

What Is Community - Twinkl Teaching Wiki - Twinkl

A community can be big or small. It can be a group of people living in the same area, like your neighbourhood, or it can be a group of people who share the same hobby or interest, like a gaming community or a book club. Communities can also be virtual, like online groups where people connect over shared interests. The key thing that makes something a community is that everyone in it shares something important to them, and they support each other.

When you think about your own community, it could be the friends you have at school, your family, the teammates on your sports team, or even the group of people who care about the same things as you. Communities give us the chance to feel like we belong, whether that’s by having people who understand us or by giving us a way to help others.

Why Communities Matter and How You Can Help Build One

Educational Guide: Build Your Own Community - Google for Creators

Communities are all around us, whether it’s the people you hang out with at school, the neighbourhood you live in, or even the online groups you’re part of. A community is any group of people who come together because they share something in common, like interests, goals, or even just a place. Communities are super important because they give us a sense of belonging, help us learn from others, and give us a chance to make a difference. But, have you ever thought about how you can help your community or even start a new one? Well, here’s why communities matter and how you can do something to make yours better.

Why Do Communities Matter?

  1. A Sense of Belonging
Communities are where we find our people, it’s the place where we feel like we belong. Think about your best friends, your team and when you’re with them. You know they’ve got your back, and you’ve got theirs. A good community helps you feel supported and understood, no matter what’s going on in your life.

  2. Sharing and Learning
Communities are great for sharing ideas and learning new things. Let’s say you’re in a group that loves playing video games. Maybe someone teaches you how to get better at a game, or maybe you learn something new about it that you never knew before. Or if you’re on a sports team, you help each other practice and get better. No matter where you are, communities are places where you can grow, pick up new skills, and teach others what you know.

  3. Making a Difference
Communities are also powerful because they give you a chance to make an impact. Whether it’s helping a neighbour, volunteering at school, or working together for a common cause, being part of a community means you can be a part of something bigger than yourself. Imagine you and your friends organise a fundraiser for a charity. You’re not just having fun, you’re making a difference and helping people who need it.

How Can You Help Your Community?

Even though you might be young, there are so many ways you can make your community better. You don’t need to be an adult to make a difference. Here are a few ideas:

Volunteer Your Time
One of the best ways to help is by giving your time, you don’t need to do huge things to make a difference, you could help clean up a local park, volunteer at school events, or even offer to help a neighbour with their yard work. Every little bit counts and it all adds up to make your community stronger.

  1. Start a ClubHow One K-6 School Uses a Book Club Model to Empower Readers
If you’re passionate about something, why not start a club? Whether it’s a book club, a sports club, or even something fun like a YouTube fan group, clubs are a great way to bring people together who share your interests. You could plan meetings, and activities, and even raise awareness for causes you care about. Starting a club helps create a space where people can come together and connect.
  2. Support Local Businesses
Small businesses are a huge part of many communities, and they need your support. Instead of going to big chain stores, try shopping at local shops, cafes, or restaurants. You can also spread the word about your favourite local spots and help them grow. Supporting local businesses helps your community stay strong and helps people in your area succeed.

  3. Help a Newcomer
Maybe you’ve noticed someone new at school or in your neighbourhood. It can be hard to be the new person, so why not take a minute to say hello and make them feel welcome. Whether it’s inviting them to join you at lunch or showing them around, a little kindness can make someone’s day and help them feel like they belong.

Not all communities are in person but if you love a certain topic or hobby, you can start an online group where people who share that interest can come together. Whether it’s through a Discord server, a social media group, or a meeting, online communities can connect people from all over the world. You can talk about your favourite games, share ideas, and even organise fun challenges, games or events.

How Can You Create a New Community?

Starting a new community is easier than you might think! It starts with an idea. Maybe you’re passionate about something and want to find others who care about it too. Here’s how you can start:

Find Your Passion
Every great community starts with something people care about. It could be an activity like gaming, sports, or helping the environment. The key is to find something you love and bring people together around it. When people share the same passion, they’re more likely to connect.

  1. Invite Others to Join
Communities grow when people get involved. Tell your friends, classmates, and even people online about your idea. You can use social media to spread the word and find others who are interested in joining. The more people you bring in, the stronger your community will be.
  2. Organize Fun Activities
It’s not enough just to talk about the community, it’s about making it fun. Plan activities where everyone can get involved. Maybe you can have an online game night, a clean-up event in your neighbourhood, or a virtual hangout. These activities help people feel like they’re part of something exciting and important.

  3. Make Everyone Feel Welcome
A great community is one where everyone feels like they belong and encourages others to be kind and respectful. When people feel included, they’re more likely to stick around and keep contributing. A welcoming environment is key to making your community strong.

  4. Stay Positive and MotivatedMotivation and Online Communities | by DEV.BIZ.OPS | Medium
Sometimes building a community takes time, it might feel slow at first, but as long as you stay positive and keep encouraging others to join, your community will grow. Remember, even the biggest communities started with just a few people who cared about something.

Conclusion

Communities are what bring us together, give us a sense of belonging, and make the world a better place. Whether you’re helping out your neighbours, starting a club at school, or creating an online group, there are so many ways you can make a difference. You don’t have to wait until you’re older, start now and see how powerful your actions can be. The best part is that when you help others and bring people together, you’re creating something that can last. So, what are you waiting for, get out there and help build or improve your community.

Here is my poem and a picture

Roses are red

Violets are blue

Nathan has gf problems so what could he do?

He stormed out of a meeting and no one missed him

He climbed a mountain and fell in depression

He received a phone call and jumped into action

He found some signal and called for help

“Hi this is Sally would you like some help”
