Sportsmanship – Wānanga

Kia Ora, welcome back to my blog. I’m keen to share what we’ve been learning in wānanga lately. Right now, we’ve been focusing on sportsmanship, which is all about behaving and respecting your teammates, opponents, and everyone involved in the game.

We watched some awesome videos showing what bad sportsmanship looks like. It wasn’t cool to see athletes disrespecting each other instead of helping each other up after a tough fall. Those videos made me realize that sports aren’t just about winning, they’re also about feelings and how you treat others.

For our task, we had several options to choose from, and my group decided to select the activities that are in bold text below. We chose to find five inspiring quotes about sportsmanship and create a poster that shows the importance of sportsmanship and what it is. Our poster includes those five quotes and some more things as well and we hope you find our work enjoyable and inspiring.

My group – Felice, Divya and Shreeya (me)

Create a poster showcasing what sportsmanship is Write a script for a video explaining sportsmanship  Create a role play scenario showing poor sportsmanship and good sportsmanship
Find 5 sportsmanship quotes  Research a sports person who exemplifies sportsmanship

I thought this task was really cool and fun because it helped me understand what sportsmanship is all about. I loved doing the research part, where I found five awesome quotes about sportsmanship. I looked at how people show encouragement in different situations and I really learnt what sportsmanship means in real life.

What is Diwali? – Wānanga

Hello, welcome back to my blog. Today in Wānanga, we are learning about Diwali. Diwali, also known as the Festival of Lights, is one of the most widely celebrated festivals in India’s Hindu communities and around the world. It is called the Festival of Lights because they don’t want evil spirits to come. That’s why they light up their houses to invite good spirits and bring happiness.

The festival lasts for five days and is celebrated in different ways across various regions. The main day of celebration usually involves lighting oil lamps, known as diyas, decorating homes with colourful rangoli and setting off fireworks. People also share sweets and gifts, perform prayers (puja) with various gods and take part in meals with family and friends.

How do you celebrate it?

  • Shops and temples are thoroughly cleaned and decorated.
  • Rangoli patterns are drawn.
  • People give offerings of fruit, Indian sweets, rice pudding and flowers.
  • People visit family and friends to wish them a happy Diwali.
  • People go to the temple to pray.
  • People wear their best clothes.
  • Evening prayers are held to worship Goddess Lakshmi.
  • Special vegetarian food is eaten.
  • Prayer and Puja are said to honour and worship Lord Ganesha and Goddess Lakshmi.

What is a Rangoli and why is it put there?

Rangoli is a decorative art created on the floor using colourful powders. During Diwali, it is made to welcome guests and god into homes. The patterns often have complex designs showing symbols like flowers, animals, geometric shapes and many more.

Rangoli is believed to bring good luck and fortune into houses. It not only adds beauty to the house but also represents joy and the celebration of life. People create these beautiful designs at the entrance of their homes to invite positive energy and ward off negative spirits during the festival.

Photo Challenge – Wānanga (CyberSmart)

Hello, welcome back to my blog. Today in Wānanga we explored another activity about CyberSmart. Today’s challenge was photos. The task was to take pictures of the following,(the people we had to take pictures of are in the text below.)

The CyberSmart challenge tasked us with taking a series of photos. This included capturing a photo of ourselves, a photo alongside our teacher, a photo with a friend and as an optional addition, a photo with a famous individual. I wasn’t particularly keen on this task as I do not like taking these kinds of photos. However, the experience turned out to be enjoyable because I had the opportunity to do it with my friends and familiar faces, making it more comfortable for me so I didn’t need to do it with someone else.

Task:

Ako|Learn

Knowing how to take a good photo is an essential part of being a CyberSmart learner. Both knowing how to take a photo that will contribute positively to your digital footprint, but also understanding how to take photos of you and your friends that are respectful and uplifting. Remember that CyberSmart learners always ask for permission before taking photos of others, and expect that it’s ok for someone to say no to having a photo taken of them.

It’s time to get ‘snapping’! Check out the instructions for this challenge, along with Mr Fergusons’s example, make a copy of the slides and start taking your photos!

Do you think I have these things? – Wānanga

Hello everyone, welcome back to my blog. Today in Wānanga, we were doing another blog post about cybersmart. In this blog post, I will discuss what a quality blog post is and the components that are required for creating a good blog post. First of all, I will be talking about the 4 key components needed in a blog post then at the bottom there will be my slide show and some things I did.

There are 4 important components needed in a blog post, here are the 4 components:

1. Digital Learning Objective: A Digital Learning Objective involves using various multimedia elements such as videos, websites and pictures in your blog. This makes your blog post visually appealing and allows the readers to understand the content, and it will make your blog interesting and engaging.

2. Unique and Interesting Title: A blog post needs a unique and engaging title, much like the one I’m using for this post. A compelling title entices readers to explore your blog. An interesting question in the title can be curious and attract people to read more.

3. Information about my learning: It is important to provide detailed information about the learning process, it allows readers to understand the topic being discussed. A well-explained learning experience captures the readers interest and keeps them engaged.

4. Category and Tags: If you add categories and tags in your blog post is important for attracting viewers and making it easier for people to find your content. Categorizing and tagging your posts makes it easy to search for things on your blog. Integrating these components into your blog post can improve its quality, making it more likely to attract and engage readers.

Task:

Ako|Learn

For this challenge, I was going to identify the elements of a quality blog post. I would find more information about creating a quality blog post on the cybersmart site.

Cybersmart Site

Hanga|Create

I had to make a copy of the presentation. Then I had to read and listen to the instructions carefully.

Presentation

I also had to take a screenshot of my blog and label the 4 components on it.

Tohatoha|Share

Take a screenshot of your slide with labels and upload it to your blog. Check if you have included all the components before publishing.

Reflection:

As always, I thoroughly enjoyed learning the Cybersmart activity. It was engaging and provided a valuable learning experience. The activity was easy and not overly challenging which made it enjoyable. I am definitely willing to take part in more activities like this as I find them informative and interesting to learn.

Check me out – Wānanga

Hello, welcome to my blog. Today in Wānanga we were doing another activity for cybersecurity, our task was to take a challenge as part of our Smart Footprint category, we had to embrace the importance of knowing what types of information should and shouldn’t be shared online. Cybersmart learners understand the difference between Private and Personal information and know that we never share private information online.

Our task was to make a copy of a Google drawing and answer the following questions. I first wanted a video and looked at an example to understand what to do. Here is my task and if you want to create this task as well the link is down below.

Digital Footprint (Cybersmart) – Wānanga

Hello readers, welcome back to my blog. In Wānanga, we were learning about being Cybersmart, we had to finish our digital footprint yesterday and then blog it. I found cybersmart very enjoyable and important to learn about, especially in today’s age where so many people (young people) with technology. Learning how to be Cybersmart is important for staying safe and how to be secure online. We discussed different aspects of being Cybersmart including protecting our personal information, identifying and avoiding online scams, and understanding the importance of privacy settings on social media platforms. It was surprising to discover when we searched our name on Google, we either found ourselves, our social media account or our school photo from other schools.

What is a digital footprint?

If you use the internet, you should be aware of your digital footprint, just like physical footprints that show someone steps on a dirt path. Your digital footprint is a history of all the activity you do online. Any social media posts you make, any websites you visit and any information you share online contribute to your digital footprint. Once you post something online can’t be erased, so your digital footprint can last forever. This can be a good thing if your digital footprint includes things that give you a positive reputation online. Your online history can also help the apps you use know more about you, they can use this information to serve you better by adjusting to the things you like and your daily habits, but they can also use this information in the wrong way and share it with others.

As I watched the video I also found out that in your digital footprint, you need to make sure you know what your footprint says about you, you also have to manage your privacy settings, manage your cookies and make sure you think before you share so you don’t do something wrong.

Here is the task I had to do –

Ako|Learn

For this challenge we are learning about our digital footprint: What is it, who can see it and what our digital footprint says about us.

Video:

Hanga|Create

Make a copy of the digital footprint template. There are instructions on the template. You will create a Google slide animation showing your digital footprint over the last 24 hours, (this means that you go on your history and check what you did in the last 24 hours and whatever you did you put the icon in).

Animation template

Compose a quality blog post explaining what a digital footprint is. Embed your animation slide so that others can learn about what a digital footprint is.

Reflection –

I absolutely enjoyed the task and found it to be quite enjoyable to do. The session on Cybersmart was not only informative but also very engaging. I particularly enjoyed learning about various strategies to stay safe online. The content was presented clearly, making it easy to understand and apply what I needed. Throughout the session, I didn’t face any difficulties. The overall experience was interesting and delightful. I look forward to implementing the knowledge gained to improve my online safety practices. Make sure you try this out.

Samoan Language Week – Samoan Patterns ( Wānanga )

Talofa everyone, welcome back to my blog. Today in my class, we’re finishing our Samoan language week patterns. Last week was Samoan language week, and Mrs. Allan, my teacher, created some slides called “Al Samoa Patterns and Designs.” These designs were really cool, but also challenging. We had to recreate these designs in the same slideshow. These designs can be used in posters or any other design you want to add something to. Today, we completed the slideshow, which was a lot of fun.

What was easy? –

The first four slides were very easy for me, and I tried to check that my work copied the image shown.

What was hard? –

As you know I said the first four slides were very easy so I think you guys would all know the rest was hard. It was tricky to find what shape it was and where it went. But by the end I got it. ( ͡° ͜ʖ ͡°)

What did I learn? –

  • I learnt how to design Samoan patterns
  • I learnt how to design patterns on Google Slides, especially the harder ones.

Could I use this in the future? –

Yes, I could use these in the future. I could use them in my posters as a design, or if I am writing about them I can add some patterns I created and more.

Here is my task –
